Power of Urgency
Jun 10, 2024Urgency requires us to be clear about what we are pursuing. It is what happens when intention meets direction.
We often automatically and haphazardly move through our lives in a state of hurry. We rush from one activity to another. Run from one accomplishment to the next. And live in a way that has us turn our backs on the present moment.
Time is funny… the only way to gain more of it is to slow it down. We elongate our experience of time by being in integrity with the present moment.
Urgency can be created on purpose or by accident. When we constrain time without clear commitments, what is convenient becomes urgent.
When we constrain time with clear commitments, what is important gains simplicity and power.
Urgency = intention x direction.
Rushed is a state of hurry and has to do with speed. It is the chaos before a deadline or final push before the close of the game .While urgency generates results, rushed generates stress.
Practices:
-
Deadlines, due dates, and consequences (if, then) can all be leveraged as urgency by design. Use these when you need a boost.
-
Urgency requires us to be clear about what we are pursuing. Take 5 minutes at the beginning or end of each day to identify the most important tasks or priorities.
